Welcome to another weekly series of polls.  (I know, I know.  I promise I'll stop after this)

This time we're voting for our favourite subgenre.  I know that's been done countless times, but this time the highest scoring subgenre will be placed 1st in an ongoing list, then next week the poll will run again without that winner.  The winner in week 2 will be placed 2nd in the ongoing list, and so on.

We all know which subgenres are generally more popular than which others, but sometimes the votes are very very close.

Week 1:
What's your favourite subgenre?

I'll get in on this series instead of watching from the sidelines. Smile

Kicking it off with a vote for the winner of the last series, the mighty eclectic.

I am always hovering between Symph and Eclectic. Today I stick with Eclectic.

RIO will clearly be the winner here, closely followed by Zeuhl.

I'll probably vote Krautrock every week as it inevitably gets outscored by something far lesser.

I would be equally in favour of Zeuhl, RIO, Canterbury, Exp/Post Metal, or Prog Folk winning

Zeuhl is the most consistent for me, although recently I've been enjoying a lot of Exp/Post Metal.

It may just be Canterbury, so I'll vote for that.

It's a toss up between symphonic, neoprog and prog folk for me.

I guess I'll go for symphonic.

Eclectic just over symphonic and neo.

Symphonic prog is my favorite sub-genre. I mean Genesis, Yes, King Crimson, and ELP are in this genre. So need I say more?

In the Court, In the Wake and (maybe) Lizard are kind of symph prog, but other than that, KC isn't symphonic prog.

I choose post/math today. Some other day the answer could be exp/post, kraut, eclectic, or maybe avant/RIO

King Crimson isn't Symphonic Prog. They're Eclectic Prog.

My apologies. I guess I was thinking of their first two albums, but, yes, they changed directions rather quickly.

So theoretically, eclectic prog should win this round. "Least loathed" equals most popular as per the vote against polls.

Least loathed does not equal most popular.

Well, from the knockout poll the eclectic prog sub-genre won.... the least loathed. Not my term but one I read that struck my chord... Yet Symphonic sub genre wins the favourite. I just wondered why....

More people wanted to see symphonic gone than eclectic win is the short answer. It doesn't mean those who voted against symph all had the same favorite. The symph loyalists are the larger group, but when all the smaller groups who prefer eclectic combined, they made a much bigger group that eclipsed the people who calim symph as their favorite.

Love your avatar BTW. Spectral Mornings is one of my favorite Hackett albums, but I really love his first four albums anyway.

Thank you. Yes Spectral Mornings was one of the first Steve Hackett albums that I heard and I still like it. One of his best for sure. Also I am gonna see him on his Genesis Revisited Extended Tour later this month. Smile

Nice! I'm sure that will be a memorable concert. I'm not a big fan of his Genesis Revisited albums, but I'm sure the music will sound great live. I'm quite anxious to hear a new Hackett album, especially after loving Beyond the Shrouded Horizon. Keeping my fingers crossed that the material is good and not one of those half and half Hackett albums.
