A Day in the Life. What a way to end an album. If I'd been around and "of age" when it came out, imagine how blown my mind could have been. As it was, I first heard it towards the end of side one of the "Blue" comp album. Sgt.Pepper is actually quite low on my favorite Beatles album. Though a certain closing song makes this album enough to listen to. I would call this a classic album, but i don't think of it as a masterpiece personally - simply because i'm not a huge fan of many of the songs here. As good as A Day in the Life is, I think She's Leaving Home would be my favourite, so I voted that. "Fixing A Hole" vs. "She's Leaving Home" vs. "A Day in the Life". The last one is overplayed to death on a local classic rock radio station, so that make choosing a little easier. I'm going with ... . Ah! ... . Screw this, I'm not voting. ... Too hard!

Voted for the strangest song I found in my dad's record colletion Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite! (which obviously didn't contain much strangeness) but could have gone for A Day in the Live like everybody else. -------------

I think he's right. I was born in 1962 and still think it's influence is overstated. For me both Revolver and Rubber Soul were better albums and had demonstrably more influence on subsequent developments in popular music than Sgt Pepper. But let's not split baby hairs, It's a very fine album by consummate artists all said. -------------

^ Yes, the Beach Boy's are too often glibly dismissed when it comes to innovation and laying the foundations for Prog's Bouncy Castle. It always irks me when certain artists are accused of using the very cliches they actually invented (Floyd and Dylan come to mind) -------------

Same for me, the song is incredibly strong. And then some say that McCartney is superficial.  But "A Day In The Life" is still a great, powerful, adventurous song, and I also love "To The Benefit Of Mr. Kite". I vote for "She's Leaving Home", though.

No problems there but I was born in 1958 and had elder siblings who bought all the Beatles releases. Revolver to my seven year old ears was absolutely amazing, Rubber Soul.....hmmm no, nowhere near Revolver or Sgt Pepper. Sgt Pepper: its release cannot be described easily......it had an absolutely mind-blowing impact on the whole of this Earth (apart from China!)...you had to be there. It changed the face of popular music but that is not to say that I don't prefer Revolver over it.

If you're referring to the gibberish at the end, it's just a random piece of conversation cut out of a piece of tape and designed to play endlessly in a loop in the run out of the original vinyl LP (and it doesn't say "F*** you like Superman backwards" as some have suggested).
