Hey Fellers,
Anybody know of a good Debussy collection that includes Beau Soir?
Also, does anybody know why it is so seldomly included in collections of his work? I get that is more on the pop side of things in terms of structure...but other than that it is a brilliant piece in my opinion. Maybe because it is a song? I know a lot of the collections I have are based on the forms of composition---e.g. sonatas, etc.
Also does anybody have a favorite rendition of the tune? I love an older one I've heard by Mary Garden on YouTube:
I like the vocal and violin versions equally.

Not sure about which collection, but this is my favourite version of it.
Interesting to contrast the male and female vocals between our picks.

Nice, Logan. That was beautiful. I think I am naturally drawn to female singers for some reason. But this was a fantastic version that I hadn't heard before! Thank you!!

Do you feel that many people rush this piece? I've heard many interpretations that just move too quickly. I enjoy the ebbing and flowing tempos that a lot of people use, but overall I tend to like this performed more slowly. Perhaps even more slowly than Debussy intended. I'm not sure.

I, also, am naturally drawn to female singers, but I feel his vocals world really well with it. I also prefer it when the piece is performed in a more drawn-out manner.
Just avoid the Maria Callas featuring Pitbull hyper-dance re-mix.
