Being the youngster I am, I'm digital here. With this said, I'm getting to a point where I want to buy vinyl releases of certain albums for the artwork alone.

I purchase CDs and LPs, but primarily listen to it digitally because of the larger selection and the portability convenience.

Mostly digitally nowadays. Since my house had a makeover, I haven't found a proper place to install my CD player yet.

Vinyl, unless it's not available in that format. Then CD, but never MP3 or any other digital format as I find the quality unlistenable. I've just bought a CD player (a Sugden) and it isn't bad at all.

Just listened to Seasons End on 180g vinyl (and recorded it on cassette for archive purposes) and it gave me goosebumps, it sounded so good.

Mostly digital, sometimes CD. I'm afraid of wearing out my beloved vinyl so they usually just sit on the shelves.

I don't even have a CD-player anymore but I got tons of CD's. Most of them ripped and shelved.

I guess I listen to about 30% vinyl and 70% digital through the same HI-Fi*. Both sounding great to my ears. I just don't get how Flac (or 320bit)-rips can be virtually unlistenable for some if the CD's they are ripped from are supposedly OK. I certainly can't hear any difference and it doesn't seem that HI-Fi freaks can either when tested. Streaming-sites such as Spotify on the other hand sounds kind of crappy compared to the same music on physical format.

*only digital through my Ipod classic when outside of course. Got a portable vinylplayer but only listen to jazz and oldies on 78rpm on it

Puzzled on the difference between cd and digital. A cd is digital, is it not?  Copy a cd onto any other media and it will sound exactly the same, providing of course you use a lossless encoder.

90% of listening time is done in my car on long commutes to work.  For storage I use a 180Gb Ipod connected to a head unit via USB.  This bypasses the Ipod’s internal DAC, consequently the original cd’s sound exactly the same as the Ipod.

FLAC employs a lossless data compression algorithm, when decompressed it is an exact copy of the original audio data.

320bit MP3 is a lossy data compression algorithm, when decompressed it is not an exact copy of the original audio data.  However, I don’t think you will be able to hear a difference with 320.  Lower bit rates there will be perceivable differences.  I don’t like to support any MP3’s for my precious music strictly because they are a lossy format.

Yes…

FLAC definitely no difference.

320bit MP3 very unlikely there will be a perceivable difference.

I never listen to vinyl or CDs anymore.  It all comes from my computer.
I have it connected to my good speakers and it sounds great to me.

I love the idea of a shuffle list that is thousands of tracks long

You never know what will pop up next.

:)

Of course, I also listen to full albums depending on my mood but it all comes from the computer these days.

About 90% of my listening time is with mp3s.  I buy stuff on CD or vinyl, and convert it to mp3 for everyday use.  When I have the time and inclination, I listen to the "good" copies on my stereo.

I'm not sure how to vote here. At my house, CD's most of the time. In my car, IPod most of the time... or wherever else I might travel that I might want to listen to some music on my own, IPod too. Whenever I might want to listen to some selection of songs instead of complete albums in my house, I might end up choosing the IPod or coomputer too.

I do prefer vinyl though, but I'd have to be somewhat sober in order to operate my turntable. If the state of drunkenness has reached karate-jello movements and strange dancing, then I prefer digital. Then it's only my computer/Ipod that gets trashed.

I am a child of the 70's, but I listen to most of my music digitally.  Financial considerations probably have a lot to do with it - I have a family to try to support.  If I could afford to buy music in any format, I would definitely buy more CD's, if for no other reason than to better support bands that I love.  However, I don't have a middle-aged person's nostalgic attachment to older formats.

Cd's. Why be a tight ass when listening to quality music? It's so much better having the album cover, song list and something to read about the band. Not to mention good sound quality and no interferences

-------------
All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.
