Bohunt Sabotage is a recording made during the preparation for John's 2006 debut solo concert at the Hampshire Jam festival. It consists of the bulk of the set recorded in a single take, as live. 

This digital re-release adds three bonus tracks including the live set and another rehearsal recording, for a total running time of about 2 hours 45 minutes (the bonus tracks do not appear on this page but will be included with your download). 

It was released on the day of the concert as a very limited issue CDR. At first the idea was just to release a very small number of discs for anyone who wanted to take something home on the day. Wider distribution wouldn't be needed because the plan was to work on a more polished studio version of the material. That started to go astray immediately - it was too good for just a handful of discs so they were covered with a heap of complicated caveats to allow for a second run. 

Ultimately some of the material was released on the Susbarbatus album. It was no longer a polished Bohunt, as many of the tracks were replaced by newer pieces and much of the music that did survive had changed dramatically. Bohunt still stands up as a separate album, hence it's release to a wider world here. 

This is not a perfect album; given more time before the concert there might have been a few more takes to try and get a fluff-free version. There are a few glitches and in particular the "Los Ashes" section which is so far away from how it should have sounded another attempt at it is presented as an additional track. 

At the time of the original release the rough edges were perhaps over-emphasised, although it wasn't bad enough to stop it rapidly selling out. If you have any qualms, you can try before you buy! 

The bonus tracks released here for the first time (apart from the live Mangrove track on Susbarbatus) showcase the full live set, bar the first couple of minutes (pressing record as well as everything else was just too much to remember) and include the encore piece which was only ever performed in the concert. 

The final bonus track is an earlier rehearsal take, slightly compressed in time, and with some quite different realisations. It is probably the definitive version of the opening section, at least until it was mutated to produce Susbarbatus. Los Ashes, on the other hand seems determined to repeat the traditional train-wreck but this time just about avoids it give or take an annoying pause...

Susbarbatus is a varied album of electronic music, spanning the rhythmic, the melodic and the abstract - underpinned by powerful, ever shifting sequences. 

The closing track, Antiquark, is a particular standout, featuring multi-layered sequences that morph and evolve in a way that evokes the works of Steve Reich (or maybe just Tangerine Dream's take on them) - while still sounding unique.
