I dug some of the Crusaders stuff, especially Southern Comfort, which has a proggy fusion side and a funky r&b side.  Wasn't too much of a fan of his solo stuff - a little too "Bob James" for my taste.  Wish Sample hadn't had such a wicked falling out with the rest of the Crusaders.  Individually, they never came close to matching their groups stuff on their solo albums.
