If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving you. Mountains crumbles to the sea, there will still be you and me. "Thank You" is a nearly perfect ballad and nearly perfectly describes how many feel about this record. In fact, I wanted this tune for my first dance with my wife when I got married, but couldn't find sheet music for it for the band to play. Oh well.... That notwithstanding, that momentary glimpse of Plant sweetness is countered by more blistering, raunchy bluesy hard rock much in the vein of the previous recording. "Whole Lotta Love", "What Is and What Should Never Be", "Heartbreaker", "Living Loving Maid" and "Ramble On" are chock full of superlative riffage and solos by Page, powerful vocals by Plant, and solid rhythm work by John-Paul Jones and John Bonham on bass and drums. How many kids in 1969 and the early 1970's wanted to learn Page's guitar lines on these songs? Again, not progressive rock, but who cares? This record cooks.
