2 stars This is easily my least favorite RMI release. Apparently there was a documentary made around 2008 called City 21 made by Knossus Project, apparently about future urban planning, but the soundtrack never came out until 2011, and it was on their own Northern Echo Recordings label. RMI was never the kind of group to play it safe or go into New Age territory, but I hate to say this, but they pretty much do that. It's as if they were trying to record music not to offend the "PBS crowd" or something like that, so they pretty much leave behind the more scary and experimental side. Put this against Gulf, Zabriskie Point or The God of Electricity, and City 21 looks pretty lightweight. Given the vast amount of releases RMI has done, there's always going to be a dud, and for me, this is that dud. I have listened to it several times and it didn't leave much of impression on me, unlike so many of their others.
