3 stars It's not very easy for me to give a low rating for the second album by the Chilean band Homínido. I want to like the album in general, but it's just hard to.

The concept of the album is unique: they talk about the different types of birds found in the band's native land (Chile) and how their personalities may be related to human characteristics.

Couple this fact with the beautiful artwork on the cover and the booklet and my curiosity was high. I had listened to the band's previous album, Estirpe Lítica, but it did not excite me very much, anyway, I decided to give the band a new chance by listening to their new album Alados.

The truth is that Homínido is a good band and has good ideas (musically and otherwise), but it is also true that the sound of the band got lost a bit in the recording process. The production of the album is lacking and it is confusing, instruments everywhere (not always harmonized) and uneven sounds everywhere. Even with the interesting mix of elements (which at times remembers a bit the Brazilian band Los Hermanos - not a Progressive band) Alados is not much superior to the debut album and doesn't have that to offer in the end.

The new vocalist, Javier Briceńo, is good, I like his voice, but in tracks like 'Vari' (a track that should have been cut off from the record) he is totally out of context, not to mention that there is not much variation in his vocal lines, but to be honest, there is not much variation in the sound of the band here for him to work with anyway. The fact that the album is almost 64 minutes long does not help much either.

I would like to see the band more tight and with a more professional recording, I believe this would do well for them, because the ideas and talent they have!

2.5 stars actually!
