5 stars This is the third studio album of 2016 from this interesting band, whose prolific output may be attributable to their multivariate personnel. Their output is always psychedelic but diverse, and in 'Ode to a Black Hole' they have produced something really special. It is a classic extended 'drone' performance, nominally split into two parts. The moody slow-burning background rolls along with great discipline, but the overlays gradually (and this is what I love) build and build to create this awe-inspiring atmosphere - really as if one is inexorably being drawn into one of the legendary astronomical objects of the title. Just fantastic.

My only quibble is the artwork, which shows a spaceship seemingly emerging from a black hole - I think the music takes us in the opposite direction.

Verdict: Recommended to fans of early Tangerine Dream or late Electric Orange - or even Tony Conrad.
