4 stars Adventurous and powerful, on Plastic People Birth Control have successfully melded their hard rock roots with a complex, yet hard edged prog sound to create a true gem. You certainly can hear influences of Gentle Giant, Genesis and the Cantebury sound, but rather than being content to imitate, Birth Control has found a unique and quite enjoyable voice on this album. There is some excellent guitar playing but on Plastic People the keys take on a greater role. Rather than diluting the sound though, they add a lot of texture and nuance giving the album more range and diversity than on previous works. Plastic People is a dynamic, notationally complex and just really well written slab of heavy prog. I recommend this one to be sure.
