4 stars I love this compilation. It was not my first encounter with compiled DEEP PURPLE material, but it remained the best one to the present day. Also, I was not that much into Purples at the time, and I was only familiar with a handful of albums. From that point, I enjoyed this (I still do), it showed me many faces of the band - early psychedelic one, later more elaborated (yet not overly complex) and some mature and pleasant works, with more polished sound. Furthermore, for a DP newbie, some songs are showing similarities with the most known ones, so it's possible to see the gradation of band's development, at least in a concise way. Along these lines there are a few alternate version of common hits - interesting experience ('Speed King' in a slow version should be avoided though).

In the context of band's work, this one should be ranked more than average. In the context of the music the most people on this web site are aiming to, it's a good choice again. Four stars, it's valuable. It's a great starter for a newbie, while not being one of dozen redundant compilations repeating same hits over and over again. A big thumbs up to the editors.
