3 stars I'll admit this album is highly influential on the prog scene, but for me it's way too dour and drab. The only life for me is Stagnation and to some extent Visions of Angels. To me this is extreme talent in its infancy as Gabriel has yet to develop the authority he'd display on future releases.

This release definitely has struck a chord within the prog world however and its staying power is undeniable. It's two stars for me but four for the rest of the world so three stars it is. A mild curiosity for me as Genesis hasn't been at the top of my stack in almost forever. I listened them out and then I naturally found I liked Caravan, King Crimson, Jade Warrior, Gentle Giant, Gong, etc. and a host of other bands better
