IN THE COURT OF THE CRIMSON KING

Music

Now if you know jazz, you know that you can change the tone of an entire chain with an E note at the beginning of the measurement. KC don't give a shit, they do have these dark jazz progressions, but suddenly, somehow easily transition into lighter tones to support the bass guitar, and the massive saxophone notes on Schizoid Man just fill you with excitement. Meanwhile, the bass guitar is exciting, powerful, and the tuning is very different. While the guitar is more subtle on Schizoid Man, it's glaringly apparent on Epitaph, and the percussion is always following an impressive and amazing bass line, which is usually flat, but sometimes switches in the drum rhythms can throw you off instantly. Epitaph is one of my favorite songs on the album, but literally every song is amazing. Even Moonchild, which can sound pretentious but really it's brilliant soundscape, and sounds so calming and satisfying right before The almost title track (off by one word, IN) which highlights the best thing about this album, the glaring booms from the bass guitar, the amazing and masterful vocal harmony, and the surprise riff, which will catch you off guard the first time it happens. Overall, it's amazing. Music: 12/10

Vocals

Vocals are great. Mostly, it's that Greg Lake knows he can't over sing especially on something like ITCOTCK, so he keeps his voice right in the center between high and low, and while many crack over that, he can hold his voice perfectly. However, sometimes he can sound dull, like he does on I Talk to the Wind, and he can't deliver some quite important vocals on some songs, and so sadly I have to deduct points for that. Vocals: 9.4/10

Lyrics

The lyrics are difficult to explain, so I can't really, but all I have to say is that, lyrics wise, they are a more mature, introspective, interesting Beatles.

Lyrics: 10/10

Overall, it's a masterpiece, and while vocals present issues for me, the music makes 2 points up for it,
