4 stars This one litterally opened all the doors, no the floodgates! I already reviewed their latest compilation album which includes most tracks of their groundbreaking debut, and I am going to rate this one higher since this was the studio album; its contribution to everything after is undeniable. The organ, the long instrumental segments, the darker concepts, the weird tempos, etc. Totally revolutionary in 1967. How many bands drawn from this unforgettable album no one will never know, but quite many for sure. And how big Jim Morrison became following this first release is also quite telling about the kind of magic they pulled.

One thing though, The Doors were capable of the best, but also of the worst. Their debut would be their best album, but it still had one or two fillers as others pointed out. These fillers are very boring.

Nevertheless, there can be no doubt that this is a more than excellent addition to any rock collection, progressive or not - it's a must-have.

PS : I wont try to be original and will confess right here that Light my Fire is my favourite track from The Doors...!
