5 stars The return of Nodo Gordiano takes place after 6 years, currently the group is a duo composed of bassist and founder Andrea De Luca and drummer Davide Guidoni (Daal), with the precious help of guests Natalia Suvorina on vocals and saxophonist Filippo Brilli. This fifth work of theirs is in some ways similar to "Flektogon" and improves its compositional, introspective and technical qualities. "Sonnar" is a modern work with very high emotional peaks, especially in the central Suite "After Dusk" - divided into eight ambitious and evocative movements, perhaps their best composition to date! The disc opens with the 9 minutes of "Only fool! Only poet!" with an introduction of keyboards and percussion to the limits of esotericism, then unraveling easily in an open rhythm, led by Andrea's great bass, here the true protagonist of the song. "Limbic rendez-vous" rides in the Crimsonian avant-garde, with the sax by Filippo Brilli which underlines a harsh, hard, but absolutely melodic piece. "Vanth" and "Charun" (two Etruscan god i presume...) are composed by the drummer Davide Guidoni: "Charun" is an interlude song, the shortest of the record, but saturated with a mysterious and disturbing atmosphere, a perfect interlude for the first aforementioned suite. The title track closes the disc "Sonnar" with a fender piano intro very reminiscent of Zeppelin or Procol Harum, and then explodes into a poignant melody, with the vocal interpretation of Natalia absolutely good. In this work, the Gordian Knot definitely lashes towards harder territories, with stunning melodies and a lot of dynamism, never a moment of banality, a unique work and fortunately far from a cold and anonymous technical perfection. "Sonnar" thus represents the worthy return of immense talent: Il Nodo Gordiano occupies an absolutely prominent place in the panorama of Italian prog.
