2 stars Sala Molksa is a five song EP release by Romanian experimental black metal act Negura Bunget. The EP has seen a couple of different releases. The first time Sala Molksa was released was by Bestial Records on cassette tape in 1998. It was released on CD in 1999. The EP was also released as disc 2 of the Triology (2004) box set which also included the From Transilvanian Forest (1995) demo on the same disc.

The music on Sala Molksa is mid-paced atmospheric black metal with raspy vocals, rather primitive riffing and some melodic keyboard backing that is very much responsible for the dark atmosphere on the EP. The five songs donīt differenciate themselves much from each other but they are pretty solid without really impressing me. While the songs are allright the sound isnīt and thatīs my biggest complaint about Sala Molksa. The production simply isnīt professional enough IMO. Maybe itīs meant to be lo-fi and muddy but it doesnīt sound good to my ears.

Sala Molksa shows a band with some good ideas but Negura Bunget still needed to work on their originality at this point. A 2 star rating is warranted.
