5 stars A classic of progressive metal, arguably the most essential record of its genre. Dream Theater's follow up to their uneven debut became very quickly a major statement within metal in general, and it's without a doubt one of the best records of metal. It's a solid quintessential record that features many classic aspects such as the well known "technical wanking", complex time signatures, virtuosity and a great sense of melody. It's currently their highest selling album and features their all-time hit opener Pull Me Under.

Standouts would be Take The Time, Metropolis Pt. I (that name's familiar right?), Under A Glass Moon and Learning To Live. One of my favorite progressive metal records, and OBJECTIVELY essential.
