TALES FROM YESTERDAY: A VIEW FROM THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE SKY (YES TRIBUTE)

This YES TRIBUTE album was the first try for the American label MAGNA CARTA A to do something new at the time,something that will become later a little musical trend, tribute albums!Both bosses from the label had the initiative to get out from the hat a bunch of monster musicians from the label and propose them to make an album full of classic YES musical pearls and to gave them new musical clothes!The result is astonishing,some of the versions are at least equals to the originals,and some are superior!None are weaker under any aspect! For me RELEASE RELEASE is simply better then the original!Just listen the mad drumer called KEVIN SOFFERA at that time behind the drum kit in SHADOW GALLERY!Baker sings like an angel and I think this song is the best one from the all album!Modern YES is represented by a version of ENCHANT gor the song CHANGES,a true masteroiece from the mythic album 90 125,maybee the most adventurous and modern YES album in time!Like for RUSH,Jon Anderson's voice was a little undefined and too raw in the beginning and with these versions we can hear sometimes,better vocal performations from some amazing vocalists like MIKE BAKER,TED LEONARD,BRET DOUGLAS,DAMIAN WILSON and the legendary ANNIE HASLAM from RENAISSANCE!The MAGNA CARTA bands SHADOW GALLERY,ENCHANT and CAIRO are doing some excellent performances here choosing 3 really inspired songs to whom they gave a new dimension with more modern interpretations!Overall a great album,obviously a very good one,together with the RUSH,ELP,GENESIS and JETHRO TULL ,little masterpieces from the great MAGNA CARTA prog label! 4,5 STARS and endless respect to YES!
