This would be the first of two Moody Blues albums I would ever purchase, the other being "Days of Future Passed." This is kind of a strange recording.

I remember the first song, if you can call it that, used to scare the crap out of me. I never liked to listen to it at night. It is just a freaky mini concept about being control by "the powers that be," and then one person begins to realize he is more than what he is being told, and the Moodies encourage the listener by telling us to keep on thinking free. Believe me, this beginning is very effective and makes a big impression on anyone who will or has listened to it. Excellent work!

"Lovely to See You" has a killer riff that is slow,but also highly effective. It will stay with you for the rest of your life as well. Very good stuff!

"Dear Diary" is very polite, at least very British anyway. I love the last line where one can hear "someone exploded an H-bomb today, but it wasn't anyone I knew." That cracked me up, just by the seemingly unconcerned attitude we all seem to have over what our governments are doing to us.

The next one has some nice guitar runs in it. This about the extent of Justin Hayward's noodling on the lead guitar. The song is a classic love song and on the quick side, at least for the Moodies.

I didn't care for "To Share Our Love" even though it is catchy. It's one of those things you either like or you don't like. On the other hand I did like "So Deep Within You." The music is well done and moody, not unlike the name of the band.

"Never Comes the Day" is one of my favorites. Excellent and highly effective guitar work, with interesting lyrics. I still sing this song a lot.

"Lazy Day" is another one I didn't like much at all. I thought it was kind of crappy.

"Are You sitting Comfortably" is another excellent acoustic number. It is very catchy and pleasing to the ear.

"The Dream" is beautifully done and also highly effective. These guys can write some great poetry!

Lastly, "Have You Heard" takes the listener on a soft journey into another dimension of sound experimentation. I didn't like the middle section as much as the beginning and ending parts. I thought it was a touch too long, meaning they dwelt too long on the musical idea.It got a little boring. Also I was hoping to hear more guitar stuff, that never materialized.

All in all this is still worth listening to and I give it 4 stars.
