4 stars Don't be misguided by the title of this CD - "Singles Collection" in English - it is a bit of a misnomer because many of these songs come from B-sides of early singles which sounded more "progressive" or psychedelic-pop than A-sides pop-hits previously included in the second set of "Mrtvo more" LP. There are 7 such tracks from 1969-70, where you can hear 3 early singers: D. Prelevic, D. Brun and D. Topic. Of special interest among these should be "Devojcice mala", which has never before been officially released by KORNI GRUPA. Two songs are taken from the first LP "Korni grupa" in 1972, accompanied with 5 popular singles, more prog in sound, taken from their peak period 1973-74, all of which sung by Z. Pejakovic. Of these there are the short single version of "Moja generacija", which had participated in Eurovision song contest in Brighton 1974, and also the short version of famous "Jedna zena", here sung by Pejakovic (the long jazzy version with Topic's vocal was included in "Prvo svetlo..." CD). The final song is live version of "The Man with a White Flag" that previously appeared on "Mrtvo more". Surprisingly, even though taken from different periods and often including different line-ups, this collection is very coherent and shows many potentials of the band, which unfortunately could not be materialised in those times when originally made. This CD is a perfect couple with the previous compilation "Prvo svetlo neobicnog zivota", no matter if there are "Divlje jagode" and "Etida" repeated here again, so the beginners will have a more in-depth picture of KORNI GRUPA's entire career, while the collectors and fans will find many interesting moments to fill up the gaps in their collections. Excellent job of Taped Pictures label, there is only a minor objection to the cover design: if there is some logic in having similar cover to "Prvo svetlo..." compilation given above remarks, the photographs of the band members are exactly the same, with only the layout somewhat changed. Certain originality in design would contribute to the overall excellent picture of this release. Highly recommended for prog fans, as well as to serious rock listeners of the "classic" period.
