DESTINED SOLITAIRE

Beardfish has always been a hit-or-miss band for me; I love some of their work while I absolutely detest other work. This album is one of those that I don't particularly enjoy. The sound here is very eclectic, but moreover very symphonic prog rock sounding. The tracks are all composed well enough if a little bit random at times, but the title track and "Coup de Grace" are the only stood out at all after listening to the album over a few times. As usual, the vocals are very strong and are probably the best part of the album, although the guitar tone is also fantastic. Beardfish has a sound that is kind of their own, and it isn't for everyone though it is mildly accessible to the beginning progressive rock fan, which is exactly who I'd recommend this album to. It really doesn't do much for me even though "Coup de Grace" is one of the band's best tracks.
