3 stars A one-man explosion of meaty, hard-edged djent instrumentals, Gru's Cosmogenesis showcases Piotrek Gruszka's advanced skills as a crafter of fine cheese-free progressive metal compositions. The guitar dominated album is a brief but welcome burst of creativity which Gru actually released for free, and whilst there's a certain extent to which it leans a little heavy on the technical showboating it's still consistently entertaining enough to be worth a try, especially since it's a free download. If that running time is any indication of Piotrek's restraint and self-editing, I have to say I wish more progressive metal musicians were as disciplined as he is, because he's able to pack more fun into 34 minutes than some acts are able to accomplish in twice that time. A fairly decent middle-of-the-road entry in the djent boom.
