3 stars 3.5 stars. This is a concept album as told by a young sailor named Jacob, as he reflects on his life as a sailor on the ship with his fellow crew mates during the American Revolution. The kicker is that he's telling it as he's drowning !

As you might expect, the music is melancholic, dark and moody overall, although there is light and beauty that gets through the clouds from time to time. The first song has a spacey intro that turns dramatic, it's about the ship leaving the port. "Eye For Eye" begins with reserved vocals and an atmospheric background that quickly changes to heavy drums and distorted guitars.

"When The Smoke Fades Away" has fragile vocals, piano and FLOYD-like guitars. "London Towne" is an upbeat song with good drums and vocals. The next three songs are my favourites. "You" is a slow tune with female background vocals. "Islands" is a dreamy song. And "Lemmings" features the singer sounding quite theatrical like Roger Waters. "On Water" actually has an uplifting ending as he says "There is a home for me on water". It closes with "If we are an ocean, i'd be this island".

I look forward to listening to PRODUCT's next 2 records. This is a great start.
