SILVERTHORN

I have to review this subjectively because KAMELOT is one of my favorite bands. I strongly believe that "Silverthorn" is one of their better albums, which is especially interesting given Roy Khan's departure from the band. Tommy Karevik has done a wonderful job of filling Khan's shoes. His melodies are similar to that of the older Kamelot and in some way mimics Khan's vocal range. Unfortunately, Karevik cannot sing like he does in his other band SEVENTH WONDER (which is a shame because his vocals are really good in that band).

"Silverthorn" is another concept album that is definitely an improvement from "Poetry for the Poisened". Musically it's reminiscent of older Kamelot albums, but it has a new touch. I have to admit it took awhile before this album sank in. When I initially listened to it when it was released I didn't think it was all that good and I ignored it. It sat in my library for months until I really discovered how amazing this album was.

A few songs worth mentioning are "Sacrimony (Angel of Afterlife)", "Torn", "My Confession", "Falling like the Fahrenheit", and "Solitaire".

KAMELOT is a band that is more symphonic in nature and not as heavily progressive as other bands out there. I'd recommend it to fans of KAMELOT and any metalheads out there.
