5 stars 9/10 King Crimson's 1981 album. Which very loosely resembles their early works. If you know anything about The Talking Heads, that's what this album is like. It's very New-Wave, Post-Punk, with perhaps some of the greatest guitar work of the 80's. The opening 'Elephant Talk' can get on some people's nerves. Those people do not include me, I like this song. Now, if I had to pick a favorite, or essential track from 'Discipline'. I might have to go with one of the next two songs. 'Frame By Frame' might have to take first place. If you don't realize how difficult this thing is to play, look up a YouTube cover version. 'Matte Kudasai' is a beautiful ballad, gorgeous love song. Belew has a great voice. He's not my favorite King Crimson singer, but he's good. 'Indiscipline' might be the weakest track, mostly instrumental, still good. 'Thela Hun Ginjeet' is one of the members talking about his encounters in New York City with street gangs and cops. 'The Sheltering Sky' and 'Discipline' are both entirely instrumental pieces. Overall, this album definitely has it's callbacks to 70's King Crimson, especially with some of the harder tracks, especially 'Indiscipline'. Great spoken word lyrics on this song however. I've read many reviews on this album, some being negative. I don't get the negative ones. This album is how to re-start a band after many years, and be wildly successful. Great, great album, and it has shorter songs for all you short song fans, though they're still a decent enough length. One of the best albums of the 80's in my book.
