3 stars Last album from avant-prog supergroup. Noisy, sharp and scratchy. All four musicians were high respectable artists of free/avant jazz scene before they founded the band, but there they play a bit different music.

In fact, Last Exit is missing link between Power Tools, excellent progressive jazz rock band (Bill Frisell and Ronald Shannon Jackson both were members) and John Zorn's avant hardcore Naked City (with Frisell on board).

Music there is free form compositions (borrowed from free jazz) played by techniques and methods of punk and heavy metal. Kind of " free punk metal" if you want. All musicians are great, but I especially like Peter Brotzmann sax attacks, not very usual instrument and sound in such kind of music!

I really like innovative sound, that noisy mix of free jazz, punk and metall, but I still think this release is more interesting than excellent. Many sounds and ideas will be used later in different projects and contests, so historically this work is really important.

But in musical sense I more see them as experimental project, than musical masterpiece.

And please note - music there is very load, dissonance, noisy and no way pleasant for listening.
