QUELLA VECCHIA LOCANDA

O.k. let me start to say that i have a huge selection of italian progressive musique so, with that in mind, i have to say that in all the italian music i have, this album is my fave. There is everything i love in this album, slow atmospheric passage, great rock riff and the addition of violin and flute to the basic drum, bass, guitar, keyboards formula. The vocals on this album are very good too.

The 1st track «Prologo» (4:59) that you can hear in the mp3 section, is a great example of the album in general. Great riff with the violin and the guitar + the keyboards doing a harmony with the vocal. The verse sound very mystical, kind like the cover. Than the piano enters to bring you to the chorus with Jethro Tull flute like and a great guitar riff.

The 2nd track «Un Villaggio,Un'illsione» (3:54) starts off with violin in a very classical way, to change suddently in a great rock passage with the flute on solo than, the vocal start in a very agressive way with the guitar in a heavy riffing than, we break to a simple bass line with the flute undrelying it. It goes back to the main riff to finish with the classical beginning but in a more rocking way.

The 3rd track «Realta» (4:13) Starts off in a very beatiful way with a classical guitar pattern reminding me of Led Zepplin. The pattern stays in most of the song and the vocal line is very beatiful. Very good track.

The 4th track «Immagini Sfuocate» (2:59) and the 5th «Il Cieco» (4:11) should be link together because «Immagini Sfuocate» ends in a fade with the same drum pattern than «Il Cieco» witch start in a fade in. Those tracks, are in my umble opinion the highlight of the album. The flute solos are has good than any flute solo i've heard in any prog album of the genre. The guitar riff in those two songs are so good, it give me shrivers in my spine every thime i hear them. Just for those two songs the album has to have a five star rating.

The 6th track «Dialogo» (3:41) is another highlight of the album. Lots of moog synth, great heavy riff witch change to a more jazzy riff, always with a flute on solo during it. The thing that i like the most about Quella Vecchia, is the way they change drasticlly their riff, heavy to soft in a metters on second without being surprise about it, it's always make cense. This song, is a good exemple :)

The 7th track «Verso La Locanda» (5:15) Is another highlight of the album, good jazzy pattern with piano on solo than a drastic change to heavy with, this time, the moog on solo. Only one word comes to my mind... WOW!!!

The 8th and final track «Sogno, Risveglio E...» (5:15) is maybe the more classical one, with a lots of acoustic piano and violin. Very beautiful almost too beautiful. The perfect ending to a perfect album.

A masterpiece!!! A must own for every progressive fan, do the best thing, buy it, your life as a prog listener will never be the same after that!!!!!
