Mortiferia biography
Mortiferia formed in a small town called Skien in the south of Norway, early 2007. The band first started to take shape when members of two bands, 'Nèmesis' and 'Sectum', got together to create a project comprised of a mix of doom metal, symphonic rock and folk. The members settled on the name Mortiferia, and the lineup at the time consisted of Frøya Myrxdottir on vocals, Joakim Severinsen and Per Ivar Haugland both on guitars, Herman Flaaten on bass, Kenneth Kristiansen on drums and Bård Thorstensen playing keyboard and piano for the band.

In July 2007, the band recorded and released a 7-track self-titled EP, although the recording and writing sessions combined with stress from work was too much for guitarist Per Ivar Haugland, and shortly after the EP release, he left Mortiferia. The band has only released one single, called 'Black Heart's Labyrinth', since Per's departure.

The band has a sound reminiscent of Katatonia and Anathema, although the dark piano and strings mixed with metal sound helps to keep it fresh and somewhat unique. Reccomended to fans of those two bands, or any post-metal or rock.
