Extinction Algorithm biography
EXTINCTION ALGORITHM is a side-project of Mr. S, the leader of Romanian avantgarde black metal band SATANOCHIO and consists of two releases from 2009 and 2010. The music of EXTINCTION ALGORITHM is a hard to define experimental guitar metal, consisting of epic compositions played exclusively on electric guitar. The stylistical source is atmospheric black metal, but without any rhythm section or vocals. The total lack of rhythm (including riffs and rhythm guitar) is compensated by an outstanding sense of narration provided by actual guitar playing, which takes precedence over droning and effects. It could be said that this music is a black metal take on pure ambient music like that of BRIAN ENO and ROBERT FRIPP. The highly emotional content of the music is created by melancholic soundscapes leading to cathartic explosions or broken by crunchy noises. The epic, progressive nature of the songwriting which keeps the listener attentive throughout the purely sonic experience is a highlight of the second release ("My Forest Is Dead"), which, unlike the self-titled debut, is not a suite of parts but a self-sufficient 26 minutes musical journey.

The conceptual content of this musical project is fittingly alienation, loss and memory. Factual information about the project is very limited, a low profile being preferred. The two releases are now available as free downloads from the Asiluum net label, which also provides remarkable cinematic versions of the two releases, both filmed and directed by Romanian visual artist / director Costin Chioreanu.
