Hello!

As far as musical tastes are concerned, I've always been somewhat of an oddbird. As a young'un, music didn't play an important part in my life. Admittedly, we would always have music playing in our house - mostly due to the fact that my parents are musicians and their method of practicing was listening to the music until they knew it by heart. Needless to say, I was reasonably familiar with the likes of Neil Young, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Pink Floyd, David Bowie etc. at an early age. That didn't stop me from endorsing the rap culture for a short period of time though - much to my parents' dismay, I'm sure. However, even though I was too hip to admit it at that time, I was already secretly jamming to Jamiroquai, Phil Collins' solo material and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Prog entered my life at the age of 15, and before too long, there was no exit to be seen from that magical world. I dedicated myself to prog almost completely, and in the process became severely thick-headed concerning most music outside the prog spectrum. That didn't last too long, however, and nowadays I consider myself lucky for liking such a wide spectrum of music (which includes a whole lot more than the obvious prog-rock favorites).


I don't have any specific requirements for liking a band, although like any other, I have my preferences - anything with a touch of jazz in it is likely to get the nod of approval from me, whereas AOR-laden modern symphonic prog only manages to produce a yawn in me. Generally though, there's one specific guideline which I follow: I will always choose a band that appeals to my emotions over a robotic powerhouse that tries to appeal to my brain.


In any case, here are some of my prog & non-prog favorites (the lists are by no means complete, but should give you something to chew on).

There's still one thing I need to bring up, I'm afraid. Most of my reviews were written over two years ago, when my command of the language was admittedly somewhat lacking. This eventually resulted in several (143 to be exact) poorly written reviews. I have now deleted them for the time being, because... well, they were unforgivably bad. The ratings are still intact though, should you want to explore how I feel about certain albums. Maybe I'll re-write them one sunny day, but until then...
