Progressive Biography

Age: 64

My story with progressive rock:

If I remember well, my first experience with progressive music was around the mid-late 70'; GENESIS/CAMEL and later VDGG, PINK FLOYD, KING CRIMSON and YES where in that order how I get acquainted with this type of music... I have to be honest, initially I did not dig well into it, especially because during that time, the heavy influence of pop-music in my old Country and personally lack of money, made very difficult for me to gain access to this music. So, during the next few years into the 80' I sporadically got the chance to listen progressive rock from the masters.
I was reintroduced to progressive music during the early part of the 80's by friends that have become as brothers into the present time; we used to hang around at least once a week, and listen to vinyls... I got to know then Italian Prog: PFM and Banco, from there on I came to USA and my music collection started growing and surprisingly still is after all this years.
I became an open minded progressive rock fan, and I like pretty much everything in this realm...from mellow-melancholic thru symphonic and even sometimes heavy, but not that much since I like progressive metal, not metal progressive, if you know what I mean.
I flipped over with the use of Mellotron, violin or flute, and lately I do like to have a dose of Sax into my music, also I admire a guitar or a synth solo that is not bombastic. I think am a purist, in the sense that I like lyrics in the language of the artist with compositions in the mid range size (6-10 minutes). I am also extremely fascinated with my native (Spanish) and Italian progressive music, but I also come back on a regular basis to listen Scandinavian Prog.
I like Symphonic prog, but over the years I have open my mind to Eclectic, Electronic and Folk Progressive; and I have acquired my test to Jazz-Fusion. Metal is not my cup of tea, although I own some releases here and there.

For a period of time, I felt that progressive music had disappeared (90's) but, with the internet use I have been able to reincorporate this music in my life. Most of my collection has been obtained thru the use of the net and mail orders from vendors all over the globe over the past 2+ decades.
I was extremely flatter about the invitation to join these group of reviewers back in 2004. In writing critiques I had a hiatus of several years, not on listen progressive music, that has continue and probably has increased, as also my collection, which now is a combination of vinyls, CDs and Digital, enough to last me for many years to come, without repeating a single track. I will be slowly getting back to write consistently as a form of a well deserve hobby, but now having a new perspective about it, so I can try to give some form of guidance to the new generation into this form of music, without I hope, being presumptuous (know it all).
