My introduction to music started with me listening to my sister play piano while I played with my toys underneath the baby grand in the mid 1960's. Having an older brother, I also started hearing The Beatles, Jefferson Airplane, Cream and Frank Zappa. I discovered Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan and The Who on my own. My first purchase was The Doors self titled album soon to be followed by The Moody Blues Days of Future Past and the Court of the Crimson King.

After tinkering with the piano for a year I saw ELP in 1973 on the Brain Salad Surgery Tour. They blew me away and I was hooked. I really felt that Rock could be played without a guitar. Still loving the hard rock of the time, such as Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and my beloved Who, I soon found out about Yes, Genesis and Kansas. I also worked with local progressive rock bands in Orange County, California like Aircastle, Jabborwoky, Gazelle and Handel by roadying, sound, lights and special effects, just to be around this music. I also kept up with my playing although that never went anywhere. I followed this music faithfully through the 70's until I lost contact in the mid 80's only to rediscover it just last year. My beloved partner, Stacy, actually ran across this site and I will be indebted to her forever.

I have caught up on the music from my favorite bands since 1986, and also the wealth of new music, Prog Festivals and concerts. You see I believe this music really needs to be experienced live and will do my best to promote bands and their live shows. I have been known to fly across country to see a band play if they won't come to my home, which is in the great area known as Southern California. I also believe there was a wealth of Progressive Rock music that died on the vine in the Untied States in the 70's and I am trying to find some of it before it disappears.

I hope my small insights into the bands that I review help you and maybe inspire you to explore deeper. I welcome any and all comments on my reviews and thank you for taking time to read this and my reviews.

Edit note May 16, 2008: While I generally try to write about new music I decided to review more classic era reviews to give a sense of reference in my ratings and taste. So if my 5 star ratings have gone up in number you now know why. As soon as I am done with these you will see more modern bands and albums cropping up in my reviews.
