Yeah I'm aware of that, but thanks for the obnoxious response--

I promise that was not meant that way.  Some people I've spoken to honestly do not know the killer is dead (possibly because the media reported his brother initially).
Alright, I'm sorry--   I'm just really getting sick of how an interesting and fun music discussion site has become one of political debate.   It's good people here can talk about these things but it gets to be too much sometimes.

Okay, let's talk about music. I listened to three Yes albums in a row today. Guess which ones!

Easy.  Going for the One, Tormato, and Drama.  I win.

I actually listened to an ELP album on the way to CHURCH (clue there).  Guess.

I didn't mean a News of the Day thread has to be about music, but the % of poli-talk feels overwhelming

It's not the discussion itself, it's the insults and namecalling that some parties can't do without that is so depressing.....i think it's really unfortunate.

I read that the petition on the white house page for addressing gun control got more signatures in 24 hours than the petition to secdede ( Wink ) got to date.  That's awesome.

Gee, I'm glad democracy doesn't work by petition.

NopeThe church clue was directed at "Jerusalem" (and, I guess, "Jesus from a hat"), hence Brain Salad Surgery.  My son loved "Benny the Bouncer!"

I think I've been called just about everything imaginable over the past few days.  Waiting for someone to start in on my ancestry.  LOL

Makes we want to give up discussing politics with most people on here.  If we can't discuss issues without being abrasive, condescending and calling each other names, what's the point of even talking.
I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

^Name calling has occured from time to time but only one member does it constantly. I have (or I guess I have) no problem with no other "political opponent" here.

Though I think you deserve me to start with your ancestry TheDoctor. I guess that would be TheBloodletter

-Jury-rigged machinery. I know people personally who have built effective mid-range guns out of scrap yard equipment. (What are we going to do, pass laws against scrap yards and mechanics?)
-Blunt instruments. Last of all, people would simply revert to beating one another with sticks.

Maybe by banning guns and causing them to become unavailable we'd force emotionally troubled individuals to seek out more devastating means of slaughter. Again, it doesn't seem hard to poison a school's food supply. Hell, there's even someone in China who did a right mean number with a knife.
To seriously compare the ease with which an automatic gun can be used (forget availability) to those you listed is ludicrous.   This argument no longer flies.   Explosives?   Poisons?   C'mon, the knowledge required to build a functioning explosive alone could be enough to deter a young person.    And poison?   Are you serious?   Talk about a straw-man.

I want people to be free to have guns. But I actually don't want them inside schools. If we have to get metal detectors and all that sh*t, I guess it will have to happen and make schools feel even more like a prison.

LOL  I think we'd both end up getting banned.

Let's say there were no school teachers.

Let's say, all public school was taught by active duty US policemen and US soldiers.  Both armed while they teach math and reading.

Are our children safer or less safe with them?  Why or why not?

But what would be the point of that Rob, whether they are safer or not?  Policemen and soldiers are not trained to teach.

Mr. Soldier in his math class:  "So let's say I have 8 bullets in my gun.  I unload 4 of them into Charlie.  How many bullets do I have left?"  ConfusedTongue

I sense you are joking, but policemen and soldiers do a lot of teaching.

That also brings up the point that teachers aren't trained to use guns.

I'm for gun rights, but I think the idea mentioned earlier in the thread - placing a policeman in every school - is a better one than letting teachers bring guns.

Why do you think that?

I would prefer if children don't have to see guns around them all the time.
