I listened to The World is a Ghetto not long ago, and it absolutly more than a regular "Funk" record. The longer tracks like City, Country, City and the title track have longer solos and unusual structure. A bit more similar to fusion.

So, this is does not really belong here, since this is a rock site and not for soul, but I have been thinking for a while about how there is funk/soul music that can be really long at times, and can come in multiple parts. Bands I am talking about are the Isley Brothers and War.
