Thanks for the recommendation. Actually, I'll nominate Peter Hammill - Sitting Targets because it is the track that directly relates to the poll topic (even if not in the way one would expect). |

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

I'm glad you enjoyed the songs. ![]() I thought Camel and Radiohead were too famous for a final nomination. In the end I chose the less known artist. Collapse Under the Empire is one of the best German post-rock bands, at least for me. Definitely worth exploring.

To finish what I started... Lewian: Of your choices I especially like the Hidden Orchestra track, which - indeed - you have suggested before, and the Startling Insects. Probably the first one a bit more, but it is rather close; the latter is more minimalist in a way, what I like very much too. The Ostzonensuppenwürfels track is nice too, but a bit too typical indie-rock sounding (to me). I prophesy disaster: I very much like that Windchase track, and indeed that grooving bass in the latter third of it. I've also always liked Peter Hammil, but I have to be in the mood for it (although sometimes it is enough to just put it up and it will bring you in the mood - it is generally brilliant music!). I prefer Sitting Targets of all these, at the moment. Mila: I like both of Masego/Don Toliver and Bab L'Bluz, with a slight preference for the latter; to my ears it has a touch more originality in the music. But the added Nordmann track, a kind of electro-rock-jazz, is probably what I like the best of your suggestions. Cristi: I know and like (very much) the Camel and Radiohead tracks. Caesar Frazier and Alternosfera are great listens too, but my preferred track of your suggestions is the post-rocky Fragments of a Prayer by Collapse Under the Empire. Great one! Nick: Nice story, and a wonderful track. I wouldn't be able to fall asleep to that, so I can imagine it woke you up every time. Logan: another track by Ciśnienie, and another one that is really great. I definitely have to explore this band! A fantastic slow groove underneath some interesting musical soundscaping. Tigerfeet: Ah, ah, an alltime classic. Great to hear this original version by Johnny Nash! Mathman: (the first video doesn't work for me, but I found this one) Oh yes, classic Speedwagon-y (again!) AOR. Although not very original, it is indeed very enjoyable. There is not much development in Drive, so I prefer Linus and Lucy of these two. But I may still prefer The Angels. Meltdowner: Wonderful, this Traffic track(s), great musicality and just a sheer pleasure to listen to! JD: Almost missed And You by Edwin. Didn't know this one before. A very percussive and speedy rock 'n roll piece. Very enjoyable. Plus a wonderful track by The Clarks, which I actually prefer. You're slowing down! |

Actually, I will nominate dEUS - Slow. Everybody knows it of course, but another obvious one, for me, is King Crimson's Dangerous Curves... (be careful, JD! ![]() |

Amos Goldberg (professor of Genocide Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem): Yes, it's genocide. It's so difficult and painful to admit it, but we can no longer avoid this conclusion.

I nominate Startled Insects - Creatures. (I lost a bit track on what I had nominated in earlier polls... I guess Startled Insects were suggested but not nominated, so I hope this is something new for most of you, and what a great track for driving it is!)

I'll stick with the Angels - Marseilles as my nominee.
I also had CDs with some classic rock and AOR tunes for driving but now play digital playlists over the Bluetooth when I go on extended drives. I have one playlist with rock instrumentals, so here a couple from guitarist Gary Hoey. He got some decent airplay on rock radio stations here in the US back in the early to mid 90s with covers of Hocus Pocus and Low Rider. Here are an original "Drive" (fitting the theme) and a cover of "Linus and Lucy". |
