Didn't listen it in full, sound names but as often with similar tributes it looks there are more show than music. Still need to listen though...

Good evening,

new Patti Smith's album is in some sense return to form, at least some songs are really more energetic than those from few previous albums

Another show and definitely the usual mix of the unusual (buried deep and neglected in the archives) and the new (hopefully not too obvious???):

The obvious: the new Rush (said by many to be the best for sometime), Joe Bonamassa's newie (doesn't seem that long since the last one?). A little featurette on Spooky Tooth. Deep from the archives: Warm Dust, Brainchild, Fruup and the most obscure pub prog of Dogwatch (whose limited edition late 70's album is about to be released on CD). Brian Bromberg smooth's up Chicago. BTW thanks to Scot for recommending a few albums . And then some nu.jazz from Poland's Jazzpospolita and Mike Mainieri with his 'Norwegian Posse'. At least I forget, with my daughter's 21st this Wednesday, there's a song about an Alice and one from Loudon W III suitably celebrating his daughter when a mere babe - and now that a particular lady is Martha Wainwright the rock star and mine is looking for suitable job as a graduate palentologist...

Enjoy:

As we wilt under the heat wave + humidity in the UK (less than 10 days when there was frost...), chillax this Thursday with ALT2. A jazz section almost free of guitars, with a Polish band Jazz Pospolita apparently in similar territory to Jaga Jazzit, newie from Marcus Miller, and a piano trio (yet again) EOL Trio drawing parallels with EST,  although perhaps dipping more into the rock bag here, while the sax/piano/drums trio of Simcock/Garland/Sirkis sound more adventurous. And can Steve Howe play jazz?  Sampling the PIL album out this week - i.e. an ex punk exploring more experimental music (didn't we call the progressive rock once....). Prog in the form of Ian Anderson's (the other one)  TAAB2, It Bites and more from Storm Corrosion. And I continue to delve into the darkest and most neglected parts of the archives....

Another week and a new mix of the archived, the reissued and the spanking new for 3 hours. New Ohmphrey and Tribal Tech - and if available the critically acclaimed newie from Farmer's Market. Dug from the depths of the archives: Ricotti & Albuquerque (the former was the only true vibist in the 70's British rock scene - Olly Halsall played many other instruments as well); obscurity in the forms of British bands Dogwatch (The Blockheads meets Genesis????) and Tractor (said to have influence Jack White...). And parallelling Gagliarchives: dipping into the Matching Mole reissues as well as Machine's Bundles (i.e. a Canterbury moment or two).... And more from that excellent, new(?) take on the blues from the Heritage Blues Orchestra. And Spooky Tooth covers BST - but this comes with a warning....................

Just a reminder that we are back on air just after 8pm tonight,  following the playlist posted last week for last Thursday's cancelled show.

PROGRAMME POSTPONENT

Been informed in the last 24hours (by Station's Programme Manager) that with a studio down following electrical safety checks, and now having a single studio to broadcast from , we can't now both broadcast on the internal campus stream, and the international broadband stream (as originally intended). Our charity raising Radiothon takes prioroty, so a rest for me tonight - sort of welcomed as I'm in the middle a nasty head cold. Therefore the playlist for tonight will be carried over to next Thursday, perhaps with a few minor changes.
