Santana, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane,
Doors, Allman Brothers Band, 13th Floor Elevator. The Residents belong
into prog, in my opinion, but are not named in here.

OK I got a question. What in the hell is "classical rock"? Are you all trying to say classic rock? Or is it another name for symphonic rock? What do you mean by classical? does it mean the music has classical infliences? or are you just adding an "al" to classic? Just wanted to know....... |

Surrealistic Pillow or Crown Of Creation. I still recommend The Worst Of Jefferson Airplane, though; It's not your ordinary compilation. It's widely considered to be a true - to - life sampling of the bands most important years. The Airplane were the kind of band that had a good, signature sound. Like King Crimson mark III and Gabriel's Genesis, they had a sound that was good by itself. They just sounded good no matter what they were playing. If you go to the offical website http://www.jeffersonairplane.com/index.html and click on listen, a jukebox will allow you to listen to full songs. [/QUOTe If you like Jefferson Airplane, the best has to be After Bathing At Baxters (1967). Surrealist Pillow is a transistional album, nice folk pop tunes with some hints of acid-rock, but Baxters is the real deal. Brilliant raw SF guitar, jamming, Grace Slicks amazing vocals, wow, check it out...also check out "Time Is" by It's a beautiful day (2nd generation SF band)-this is the music that Airplane should have been doing in 1969 instead of country-rock. Other people were doing that better. Bye! |

I can see that you like intelligent rock with some diversity and a heavy touch. So here are some recommendations, following that line: Illinois Speed Press - Same James Gang - Rides Again (with Joe Walsh, a classic band, psychedelic touch, and they rock) Buffalo Spingfield - Again (with Stephen Stills and Neil Young; classic, just a bit psychedelic and Stills gives it a rock feel; underestimated classic) Spooky Tooth - Spooky Two The Allman Brothers Band - Win, Lose Or Draw |

Well, Jeferson airplane is a wonderful idea & surialistic ... & crown of creation are the right albums. I would recomend 3 other ones : 1. Lou Reed - start with "Sally ca'nt dance" & "Berlin" 2. David Bowie - start with "Space oddity" & "The man who sold the world" 3. Talking heads - their best are "Remain in light" & "Fear of music"
enjoy ! |

If you want that classic rock sound with a current band, try Gov't Mule. The rockers love them, metal heads love them, jam band nuts love them...

Have you heard The Fire Theft - "s/t" or Sunny Day Real Estate - "The Rising Tide"? Both have a classic rock feel to them, but they're recent bands. I can't recommend them enough.
