yes, it is indeed, it's used too often (especially on this forum)...

But what word can be used instead?

No, it has a nice ring to it, or maybe its like something you get after a big lunch, over ated.

I feel the member continually using it is just trying to start threads that will spark controversy. Just a subtle way of trolling. Does the member actually input more than the topic starter- can't remember.

Overvalued

Overestimated

Hyped

Puffed up

Glorified

Just a few ideas from MS Word Thesaurus...

There was a funny quotation: "I think it's overrated"
from Monty Python's "And Now For Something Completely Different", do you remember that?

That gives me an idea for a poll:

Which of the following is Dream Theater?

  • Overvalued
  • Overestimated
  • Hyped
  • Puffed up
  • Glorified

Seriously I love Dream Theater.

By the way, how can a band be overrated if lots of people like it? Maybe they are all fools?

I was thinking the same for ELP, but I guess that kind of idea is 'overused'

Hmm, I just defended by overrated- theory in the Porcupine Tree thread.

Just copy and paste ...

I don't believe in overrated or underrated. Every band is rated as it is. It is that invisible hand of the economic market which sometimes strechtes over to the field of music opinions. So being rated is subject of the opinions of all people, not only the ones being capable of technically analyse the music, but the less than experts as well.

So people using the word overrated are just bad losers, trying to force their opinion and musical superiority to others. The same applies to underrated.

It's impossible to overstate how overrated it is. Find a synonym and get over it!

I've got my doubts about how much to contribute
to the already rich among us...'

I think both 'underrated' and 'overrated' are being overstated here, but then again I am the master of understatement..

Instead of overrated, how about............musically inept and derided by most, but there's always one who thinks they are grander than the rest..................

I think discussing whether or not the word "overrated" is overrated is in itself overrated.
I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?
