Tricky one that... i dont think that Camel and Caravan are as simmilar as people reckon however they do gain simmilar followings. Caravan are much more comparable to other Canterbury bands whilst Camel is much more akin to Pink Floyd's idea of progressive rock. I love them both but i'll have to go with Camel. The were the first prog rock band i heard and, in my opinion, their only really bad album is 'Breathless' but even that has its moments. Caravan have little to offer after 1973. | Right. They aren't as similar. And I think, Breathless isn't bad album. I love Echoes. And Down On The Farm could be Caravan song as well...

The press called Camel, 'Caramel' when, in 1978, they had 3 caravan members(Jan Schelhaus and Richard and David Sinclair) and 2 Camel Members (Latimer and Ward) They didnt record anything but that must have been one mother of a live act... i hope to God that Camel productions release a live album from that tour!

Well, so far I've only got one release each of those 2 bands, Snow
Goose and In the Land of Grey and Pink. Based on those 2, I find The
Snow Goose to be far superior.

I know that and I own also their album of that period: Breathless (very good!) and I can See Your House From Here (moderately good)
P.S. and I like very much the song Down on the Farm sung by Richard Sinclair!!

I like Caravan a LOT.
But I LOVE Camel - so they get my vote. They would get it against any other band, in fact.

Snow Goose disappointed me a bit, I think I'll go with Caravan.

I'll have to go with Caravan. IMO they have produced more high qaulity albums than Camel, and I have liking for there posh lyrics/vocals.

I really love those sweet melodies that the couple Bardens/Latimer built together. So I go with camel

When I finally heard Caravan only recently, I was astonished at how much they sounded like Camel, or conversely, how much Camel copied their sound. In that sense Caravan were very original, and Camel IMHO never contributed anything original to progressive rock, lacking both the charm of Caravan and Canterbury and the radical edge of other prog bands, but certainly not the pretentious aspects. They did soften the edges and water it down to a nice, palatable brew for the masses...lots of people enjoy that, and more power to 'em, but it wasn't terribly innovative.

??? I hate Breathless! It's got a couple of nice tracks but really, i couldnt think of a Camel album that lacks quite as much inspiration as Breathless... easily thier darkest hour! Caravan fans often like it because of Richard Sinclair's presence but i'm sure he was just in it for the money as i cant see Richard Sinclair being at all interested in what Camel was doing at the time

Camel, by a mile. I have (and like) most of their albums. I own two
Caravan albums (Waterloo Lily and In the land of grey and pink) and
they are definitely inferior in my taste.

I know it was meant to be crap, but it's still one of the worst songs ever recorded, right up there with GG's Playing the Game and that nu-metal "Wake me up inside" thing.

Caravan is better with albums such as "If i could.." and "In the land...", but Camel is important.
