The Man in Black himself - the great Ritchie Blackmore! Then I'd mention Steve Howe, David Gilmour, Jimmy Page... And what about Gary Moore or Steve Morse?

You, can say all you want, but I think it's pretty much completely impossible to figure out who the best guitarist is.
So stop making these threads.

Why doesn't ANYONE talk about Tony MacAlpine? I also like Petrucci, of course , Lifeson, Howe, Jeff Loomis from Nevermore and dare I say Eddie Van Halen, back when he still mattered.

I mentioned him. One of my personal favorite guitarists.... I admire his ability of being a virtuoso on guitar AND keyboard, as well as being very versatile on guitar. Not to forget his technical ability is just incredible. Chromaticity is just as good as Maximum Security if not better, in my opinion. Listen to Christmas Island.... SICK!!

Good call. Obviously there are plenty of brilliant guitar players, past and present; it's too hard, and pretty unecessary to choose.
