One thing we havent discussed is the ball.
I've just been watching highlights of Germany V Costa Rica on the BBC website and it reminded me of the ridiculous flight of the ball for the 4th goal scored by Frings. It swerves in the opposite direction at the last minute giving the goalie no chance.
My problem is,did Frings know that the ball would swerve like that? I mean was it his skill or was it more likely that new ball will be giving more and more problems for goalkeepers?

If they play that kind of attacking game all through the tournament then every credit.

Actually it wasn't that suprising, the german way of playing has changed quite a bit. It's probably the youngest team since a long time ago, with totally different kinds of players. I'm sure you haven't heard most of the players' names before??

I think out of the whole team only Hanover's(?)  P Mertesacker was unfamiliar to me. My time is split equally between sitting on this site and watching Football or browsing Football related sites.
I have read many comments from German journalists that they are worried by the gung-ho style that Klinsmann has decided on,they were certtainly surprised!LOL

All credit to the team if they continue to play that way but whilst they will win many fans from the other nations, will they genuinely stand a chance of raising the trophy?
Poland look there for the taking, but surely they wont play as poorly again and hopefully they will have provided the linesmen with glasses....Geek

Looks like there's no real concensus here on the Netherlands-Serbia game, which is unusual - I really have no idea on this one.........Netherlands should be too strong for the Serbs, but Serbia certainly don't look a weak team.....surely Mexico will win fairly comfortably against Iran........and although Portugal should beat Angola, you never know, what with the colonial thing...and don't forget Portugal2, USA3 from last time around........

My prediction : Holland - Servia/Montenegro  0-2 . Holland 's weak defense and midfield.

Also the German team is sortof forced to play an attacking game, considering they have to entertain their audience!

Serbia & Montenegro 0 - 2 Holland
Mexico 2 - 1 Iran
Portugal 3 - 0 Angola

Hey, Sweden and T&T probably the most exciting game, I was very exited and somehow I support T&T, what a great match...

BBC World Cup Guidelines for commentary team.

1 -Within 1 minute of kick off in the opening match (Germany v Costa Rica), the commentator must mention England.

2 - Regardless of what two teams are contesting the final, England have to be mentioned within the first minute.

3 - The commentator shall refer to the Falkland Isles in passing at some point in the match if England play Argentina.

4 - Whenever a hat trick is scored, comparisons with Geoff Hurst will be made within seconds of the third goal hitting the net.

5 - Should England wear their red jerseys, then '1966' should be mentioned approximately 20 times.

6 - 1966 will be mentioned approximately 10 times a match, or only on 4 or 5 occasions for matches not involving England.

7 - Prior to the captain of the winning team lifting the trophy, the commentator will mention Bobby Moore. And 1966.

8 - When Germany are playing, they must be referred to as being arrogant by the commentator on at least 14 occasions.  This must refer to their style, their passing, their haircuts and their general footballing ability.

9 - Should England play Germany, mentions of Winston Churchill, Dambusters, The Luftwaffe and Adolf Hitler will be compulsory.  And 1966.

10 - All Scottish members of our commentary team must continue to refer to England as "we" and "us".

11 - We must ensure that nationlistic stereotypes are adhered to.  Of course, the Germans are arrogant. The Spanish are bottlers, The Ivory Coast are fast but bad at defending,  The Angolans are disorganised, The Argentinians are cheats and the French are only good because their best players play in England.

12 - For matches not involving England, we must only discuss the players that are playing in England.  (eg ? Holland v Argentina should be referred to as Van Nistelroy v Crespo).

13 - The mythical "bulldog spirit" phrase should be used as often as possible.

14 - Each match involving England should begin with the phrase "England Expects."

15 - Should any player be involved in an injury that involves the loss of teeth, then references to Nobby Stiles and 1966 are compulsory.

16 - If in doubt, mention 1966.

17 - Praise all of the stunning new stadiums in Germany but emphasise that they lack the presence of Wembley, the spiritual home of football since 1966.

18 - Commentators should feel free to imitate the style of Kenneth Wolstenholme, the hero of 1966.

19 - Should any team feature brothers playing together, then Jackie and Bobby Charlton should be mentioned.

20 - When England bow out after the first stage, we must emphasise that it is a massive blow to football and a serious loss to the World Cup.

How I see it today:

I expected more on England..it was a fair winning...I guess Paraguay suffered because that goal that came to early and the injury of Justo Villar.
But it always happens with big squads like Italy...first games results a little bit of a warm up to do a better job in the playoffs (Example Italy in Spain 1982 and USA 1994)...England can do it better make no mistake about it...Paraguay demonstrated its football in the secons half...but it wasn't enough how they feel the abscence of Jose Cardozo, their best striker.

Trinidad did what they had to do...to defend as much as they can...because Sweden players were more than them...and it resulted...Sweden had a lot of chances, but they didn't score...bad luck for Sweden and a great job of the T&T team in the other hand, congratulations...

I'm happy for Argentina though I must admit that when Drogba scored I felt a little bit happy because the match was getting bored and the last minutes of the game were exceptional...Good for Argentina an congrats!!!!

Sorry for my english again and that's my humble opinion about today

See ya!
