The official 2007-08 NFL thread

From my limited NFL knowledge, I think the Browns will be the seasons suprise, as they have done a lot to imrpove their offensive line. Although they do play in an impossible division so I doubt they'll make the playoffs.

Being a Raiders fans the last 4 years have been anything but fun however I am cautiously optimistic from what I have seen in the preseason.  The offensive line is the key to this whole offense and so far have done pretty well.  The QB's have done adequetly understanding as all of them are learning a new system while two are from other teams. The big surprise of the three has been Daunte Culpepper.  He seems very versatile, confident and savvy.  He also does not seem to have any lingering affect of his injuries.  This could be the key to a decent season.  There have been some turnover problems coming from bad snaps that better be worked out by day one. The Raiders schedule is not kind even though they had the worst record in football as they are playing both Super Bowl teams and of course the ultra Competitive AFC west.  

Two games into the preseason, how do your teams look?

The Chiefs are going to have a LONG season. Yeah, yeah, yeah, they keep talking rebuilding year, but Edwards was supposed to come in and form a juggernaut of a defense, but so far they haven't played to their potential (I was at the Rush show on Thursday during their game with New Orleans; but, from what I've heard it wasn't pretty at all).

After several years of having the NFL's top rated offense under Vermeil, it looks as though KC fans will have to get used to a grind it out, ball controlled, smash mouth offense. Not all bad...if we had the players to execute. Our once dominant offensive line has been dismantled with the retirements of Willie Roaf and Will Shields, and we still don't have that deep threat or a receiver who will strike fear into the secondary.

We have a decent running back squad; however, how good will it be if we have an O line who can't create holes? Furthermore, we have a former defensive player in as fullback. What in the world is Edwards doing?

And then there's the quarterbacks--the central nervous system of the offense. Green floundered in Solari's new offensive scheme, so we trade him and leave it up to journeyman Damon Huard (who did step in nicely when the Bengals scrambled Trent Green's brains last year), and second year green horn Brodie Croyle (Have you guys seen his wife on the HBO special Hard Knocks? Man alive, if he could play half as well as he can pick out a gorgeous wife, we'd be champions for the next 5 Super Bowls). The play calling has favored Croyle because they really want this kid to shine; however, it looks like he doesn't even want it. The kid has a strong arm and all the tools that makes a good QB, but his decision making skills on the field are about as good as Vick's decisions off the field.

Anyway, I'm simply looking forward to both college and pro football starting. It should be interesting. The only thing I'll be looking forward to is a top 5 pick in next year's draft.
