I've always preferred Deep purple by light-years of distance.
The best vocalist in my opinion, the best guitarist, and the best music.

Tough choice between Purple and Zep. But since I'm a bit tired of Purple right now I'll give the glory to Zeppelin.
Sabbath is great...but only sometimes. Never really been in to that doomy-gloomy-sludgy stuff. I prefer the albums with Dio. And I guess I'll regret saying that...

Led Zeppelin byt so so far! Purple is good, but I got tired of them, and Sabbath always bored me to tears

I'll say Led Zeppelin for now, but I can see myself preferring Deep Purple once I have more of their albums.

I have huge admiration for Sabbath, but Zep's eccentricities set them apart

I've always thought of these as part of a foursome. The other is Uriah Heep.
If they were in this poll i would have voted for them.

I was thinking that this poll had been done before, but after doing a bit of browsing all I could find was Sabbath vs Purple; Sabbath Vs Zeppelin; and Purple Vs Zeppelin. And then lo and behold, I found this thread which is actually a few months old, but asks about all 3 bands. You might want to check this out. And FYI, these are all posted in the Proto-prog and prog-related section, since all 3 bands are in those categories.

Well said, Scott! Poll should be moved to the PP/PR Lounge.
Ah, BTW, Deep Purple for me , though I love Zep and the Sabs as well. Three of my all-time fav bands indeed. |
Moved.
Deeply Purple for me too. I love heavy rock but never managed to get all three of these together - I don't care that much for Zep and BS don't do anything for me beyond Master of Reality.

A draw between Sabbath and Purple.
I don't think Zeppelin's heavy stuff is cool enough usually and Plants voice is a bit ugly at times

I rather admire the three of them very much. But like I said in other threads that what I love of Purple is that they had varied line ups and all of them being very succesful, and the other thing is Jon Lord. (but this is not like Uriah Heep's line ups, Purple's line ups each had different influences. ie: Evan/Simper psych. Coverdale/Hughes funk soul. Morse modern rock.) Okay Sabbath had different line ups but each one is aheading more to metal. I love Ozzy's era but then with the exception of Heaven and Hell the rest is junk for me. And Led Zep okay they're great I have all their discography but they never impressed me, that's not meaning they're not good or that I don't like them, I love em in fact but doesn't reach the feeling that I have with Purple.
