Well I like Jethro Tull and even Deep Purple but I can see how he might feel that way.
It's so sad to see these once Giants having tro swallow their pride and have to open up for less talented bands and this isn't just ELP I am talking about.., there are ALOT of once great bands who have to suffer through this. Pity!

Its so true.. but his new band is young and I'm sure they need the experience and he's not going to draw big crowds without Greg and Carl... so I just hope he has a good time with it and gets some quality time writing new stuff with his new guitarist... Dave Kilminster. That would make this insult seem less harsh.
Actually I think thats why Greg hasn't been really into doing anything the last few years. He went out to play with Ringo because he knew that was actually a hearty testament to his talent.. and not a put down in anyway. But that last ELP tour where they had to backup Jethro Tull.. and at one point Deep Purple... I think that really sickened him on the whole thing. Some of the videos I have from that last tour... he looked so depressed.

I agree completely. Someone with a talent like Keith Emerson even being on the same bill as talentless noise polluters like Scorpions and Tesla is criminal enough without him actually having to open for the morons too!

The idea of Keith Emerson having to open up for the Scorpions and worse yet....Tesla!!!!!......is a crime. He should be the featured band

Understand well what you're saying here. I grew up in a very religious Southern Baptist family in NC. I don't think they had such a hard time with me loving ELP from a distance, it was the fact that I left home with ELP at 17 that sort of upset them. However, I had really great parents.. they got over it really quick, but the rest of my family deemed me the black sheep, if you know what I mean.
I'm very excepting of people's lifestyles. I think if my son was gracious enough to put up with me being a groupie most his life, I can handle him being gay. And since we aren't attracted to the same type of men, we get along really great together.... Man, can we work a room....

I know what you mean as far as black sheep is concerned. That is for sure.
I like ELP...but the Scorpions?... .and as far as show tunes....other than the Buffy musical I don't gravitate towards that either so we're on aggreeance there

Well Carl always had such a baby face... and a high pitched voice, lots of people thought he was gay. Then on the Works tour, he had this prince valiant haircut and wore lots of leather... and he can be really campy at times... but believe me, he's as straight as a board. Now Greg and Keith... lord... the epitomy of straightdom...

I'm so hetero it hurts and an ELP fan but once back in the dark distant (and thank God for that!) 80's I had "Love Beach" lying next to the stereo one day and when my girlfriend at the time when over to put on some music she sees the album (and this was the vinyl version so the cover photo was much more imposing than the puny later cd version),picks it up,stares at it for a while and says: "Is this a gay band?". And no matter how many times I said they weren't,she wouldn't believe me. "Are you seriously telling me these guys are straight?!". For all I know she might still be firmly convinced ELP were the English answer to the Village People.

Mind you in the late seventies I remember it was lot more diificult to 'come out' ie to admit to liking ELP!!

Good thing this isn't the 70's. I was a youngster in the 70's and had no idea who ELP were. I was but 13 in 79 and was listening to bands like Blue Oyster Cult and Styx. ELP wasn't even a blip on the radar. But definately times were different...........It took me until the 90's to work up the courage of "coming out".
when issues like that was more acceptable.

well I love going to concerts... where I can prove that you don't have to be young to get a few rock stars to want to hug all over you. I had a great time tho.. hanging out with Maani. I'm sure he'll tell you all about it somewhere around here.

Well I'm a huge ELP fan, and I'm straight... My son is gay, and he's not an ELP fan. And I usually attract gay men like flypaper. I'm evidently the perfect fag hag, so they say. And yet I never met a gay man at an ELP concert, nor do any of my many gay males friends like ELP at all... The closest they get is probably Phil Collins....

I made my percentage up for the sake of comedy.

The percentage is probably much lower on this site....prog rock and the gay lifestyle don't really go hand in hand. I am not trying to stereotype as i am sure there is a percentage but 10-15......no way.....perhaps if this was a broadway musical or tribute to Cher that percentage would be up that high....maybe higher.
It is all about environment, culture, etc,. and this isn't the ideal environment for the typical gay person.
