I do have Abbiamo Tutti I Suoi Problemi which is excellent, it's like an Italian Henry Cow.  Smile  Dylan tells me their debut is more of a "classic" Canterbury sound.  And yes, Moving Gelatine Plates is on the list, as is Quiet Sun, another glaring omission from my collection.

That PdP album, in particular, is an absolute must, I'd say.  Though the follow-up album is generally the one that I call my favourite.  I have all of PdP albums.

Mr. Sirius from Japan is also well worth checking out.

A really fantastic band you haven't mentioned is MOVING GELATINE PLATES from France (you may already have it).

Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

Gah, there's still so much Canterbury that I need to obtain - particularly "foreign" Canterbury!

I've got Supersister's first two albums, and they're fantastic! I'm quite sure you'll love them... Vintage Canterbury sounds from a Dutch band!

At the same store where I found the other albums I saw Matching Mole's On the Radio live album... In spite of the hefty price tag (about €21 for a single CD), I really want to get that, since I have nothing by the band, and love David Sinclair's playing.

Yeah, I really need to get a hold of more Caravan.  I still don't have any Matching Mole, either.  The curse of finite financial resources!  Angry

Raf - listening to that Jakko album now...I still am not 100% sure about it being "Canterbury" but I think it would be OK if that's where it was placed.  We certainly agree that this artist should be in the archives - this album alone can get him there.

So many great suggestions to look for... Luckily, I've noticed that most Soft Machine-related albums are relatively easy to find here in Italy, especially if one looks into the Jazz section of music stores. I have to take advantage of the situation as long as I live in Italy, because I'm afraid lean days will come once I move to the USLOL... I've seen music stores like FYE and Best Buy, and I call them 'compilation heaven'!LOL

Anyway, I agree with Pat about The Civil Surface. Obviously it's far from being a bad album, but it's definitely not as impressive as The Polite Force. As for Jakszyk's album, it gets better and better at every listen.. Definitely deserving of addition to our database!

That Elton Dean is his amazing self as usual sort of goes without saying, but the other players are really fantastic, in particular great bass on this record.

I meant enlighten with your thoughts on what you think of it, now you've heard it.

Of course, I've read your other post expressing your joy about it now.  It's an excellent album indeed!

OK, my search-and-destroy mission of today was largely fruitful, seen as I got home not only with Jakko Jakszyk's aforementioned album (which will make all of you green with envy WinkLOL), but also with Khan's Space Shanty (which I had been looking for in vain for some time now), and Egg's The Civil Surface. Since FNAC is a French chain, I suppose the abundance of Canterbury-related material is due to the popularity of the subgenre in France - wonderful thing for those who live in close proximity to such stores (they also have a nice selection of RPI and Krautrock stuff).

That said, the Jakko album is indeed superb, and he deserves addition in PA immediately. The only thing is, where are we going to put it? Besides Canterbury, on the strength of this album I think Xover (or even eclectic) could be a good placement for him. I'm quite willing to do the addition myself, and will talk to Micky and Dean about it.

Raf - I downloaded this album Friday, and listened to it a little.  I have the same sort of quandary about where (at least this particular record) would be placed - despite the Canterbury's "who's who" on there - I can provide some more input next week when I listen to it more.

The other two albums you got are also a win, although I will say I find The Civil Surface my least favorite of the Egg records.

Hmm, so you listened to The Bruised Romantic Glee Club straight away but haven't yet listened to The Unbelievable Truth?

That's unbelievable!

That needs sorting out, Patrick. WinkLOL

Check the "What are you listening to?" thread, n00b.  Wink

No it won't, I have a signed copy by Jakko Jakszyk himself. WinkBig%20smile
