Damn right. I'd add King Crimson and Zappa - some bands really come alive on stage, and the only studio album that comes anywhere near capturing the sheer intensity of Magma live is KA, and that's still pretty pale in comparison.

An awful lot of people are there in disguise on the Commercial Album! LOL

MP07 may be right - first Residents is as crucial as (sorry) first Magma.  It can put you off for life or become a lasting source of horrified fascination.  Choose wisely!!  And... er... don't expect to like it much the first few times you hear their stuff (unless it just happens to appeal instantly - which I'm sure it does to some people).

(That's assuming you've not heard any of it yet... perhaps you have... anyway... er...)

The only album I have ever taken back to the shop because I didn't like it was 'Wormwood'.  (I still don't own the studio version of that, but the live is excellent!!)  There was something too weird and yet too... I dunno... anodyne...? about it, somehow.  Not the best starting point for me.

But I was too interested in the idea of them not to try something else.  And the moment I heard 'Meet the Residents' (some months later, after much reflection!) - well, that one I liked immediately.  That one is more 'vintage weirdness' - a more comfortable kind of oddness I guess!

Anyway... have yerself some very strange fun there.  You might like it... Big%20smile

I can't give a definitive answer. Trigaux has had mobility problems for some years, but I don't know if he has ever been wheelchair bound. And yes, the one in the wheelchair looks more like Berckmans to me. maybe somebody can ask him at next year's RIO festival.


I'm not entirely sure, but here's a 3rd vote/guess that it's probably Berckmans. That's what I've thought anyway, but I'm far from being an expert on the matter.

I wish there was a way of knowing for sure right now. Disapprove

Pretty much all of my friends have LONG since given up trying to figure out what the hell it is I listen to.

Every year my school has a "Tolerance Day" thing where kids go on stage and play various forms of ethnic music and I think I just might be able to pass off some "Kobaian folk music" on the somewhat absent-minded teacher who runs the assemblies.

Yep, I was looking at later photos of Berckmans on the UZ website and it did resemble him.  It's just always intrigued me if it was an accident, or just a photo opportunity.

It'll be interesting to find out.

I've made the mistake of listening to Bone's Uses Wrist Grab on the bus, as well as VdGG.  I find it immensely difficult to just sit still when listening to brilliant music and I want to air drum all the time!

Even tapping my foot feels wrong...

What's the most embarrassing travelling music experience you guys have had?

Haha, yeah, I never bother mentioning music to most people. LOL

What's going to be the best is when my band's first album gets finished... a bunch of people I went to school with want to hear it. But I know their music taste. I'd love to see their reaction to some of it. LOL

Most embarassing... not sure. Usually when I think I'm alone and I'm singing, especially to Magma or Koenji, and one of my family members pops in on me. EmbarrassedLOL

I'd probably have to do something from Wurdah Itah since there isn't exactly an excess of musicians wanting to participate.

Although, come to think of it, one of the kids I converted plays clarinet.

Yeah, probably. You could adapt some of the parts though, somehow. Clarinet would be a cool feature!
