This is one occasion when censorship is probably a good thing! Tongue

Anyway... Mothlite should be in the Archives.  I'm going to suggest them. Smile

I could... but I'm a bit dubious about whether I'd like Aethenor, to be honest.  It's ambient, improvised, cold music, whilst I'm more into incident-crammed, tightly-composed, volcanically-hot stuff...! Big%20smile  Although, given my Pavlovian response to all things Daniel O'Sullivan these days, maybe I should give it a go... one day. Tongue
Aethenor is well worth giving a try, and emusic is a cheap way to dip your toe into the water.

I know I'll succumb to this eventually, but I'm fighting it. Wink

I'll probably get me some of that Miasma next, on the DOS front. Smile

I've got some This Heat, but I haven't listened to it too closely yet.  I think there are two issues with it for me.

1.  Timbre.  (Sorry... I may be about to be pretentious! Tongue)  I'm so immured in that richly-textured feel of 70s music, that the (how to describe it??) flatter, more matte (?? I did warn you! Embarrassed) feel of 80s music kinda feels weird.  I need to push through that barrier somehow.  (The Residents may help with this - like a bridge from one to the other...)

2.  Hipness.  Let's face it - This Heat is a hipster totem. LOL  And I'm rather allergic to that.  "Oh, you listen to This Heat?  That makes you COOL."  Does it...?  Really...?  Hmmm.  (I'd rather be weird than cool. Wink)

And that's all. Big%20smile

I want that This Heat boxset.  I've heard some of their tracks and some are very good.  I do like Charles Hayward a lot though.

I also have a Camberwell Now album somewhere which I've yet to listen to.

Ah, thanks Blowie!  I'm sure I've seen other photos of Segers not in a wheelchair though.

Any ideas?

Actually, I'm a friend on Guy Segers' MySpace page, so maybe I could ask him?

Guy Segers is always on the right in the following photos:

I think it may have just been a reason to make a weird photo for Heresie. Tongue

But who is the musician in the wheelchair on the cover of Héresie?  I believe it is Berckmans (by looking at later photos of him on the UZ website) but he is not in a wheelchair in those.

*snip*

Bump.

Sorry! Embarrassed

Can anyone answer this?

I can't give a definitive answer. Trigaux has had mobility problems for some years, but I don't know if he has ever been wheelchair bound. And yes, the one in the wheelchair looks more like Berckmans to me. maybe somebody can ask him at next year's RIO festival.

I'm not entirely sure, but here's a 3rd vote/guess that it's probably Berckmans. That's what I've thought anyway, but I'm far from being an expert on the matter.

I wish there was a way of knowing for sure right now. Disapprove

The one in the weelchair is Guy Segers. I recognize him from other pictures of UZ's early years..

Do you know why he was in a wheelchair?

Angherr Shisspa would be good in the car though! Yoshida's drumming would be EPIC. Big%20smile

Oh, Mindawn is nice. I don't really care about FLAC, though--lossless is extremely overrated. But maybe I just don't have good enough ears. ;-)

Which This Heat album(s) have you heard?

Hmmm, what else do they have that sounds interesting then?  I don't use eMusic, because I always buy CDs like people should be doing. Big%20smile

Plus nothing beats looking at a pile of CDs and saying "they're mine!".  You can't do that with digitial files and you cannot get them signed either, of course.

I heard a Mothlite track, I thought they'd be too quiet for your tastes, Melissa?  It didn't sound remotely like Guapo's noise.

Oooh, you could try and get Picchio dal Pozzo's second album, it's RIO and excellent.  Not sure if it's on eMusic either, mind you.

Indeed, nothing beats CDs.  [Edited to add - before someone else does - except LPs! LOL]  I am amassing them, too, rather rapidly... Embarrassed  But emusic is great for those 'cheap thrills', yes? Big%20smile

I wasn't really expecting to like Mothlite - I think I even heard something of theirs before on their myspace or something, and didn't hate it but wasn't raving about it, either.  But a friend of mine rather pressed it upon me, so I caved in and had a proper listen... and really, really liked it.  There's something about that Daniel O'Sullivan - he is sneaky.  You might dismiss him as this rather effete, pompous so-and-so, and maybe the first time you hear the music it just seems rather clever (maybe even pretentious).  But it's got something about it.  Something sweetly sinister.  It's almost like... he's licked an hallucinogenic toad so you don't have to!! Dead Wacko LOL  (NB: obligatory public service message - kids, don't lick hallucinogenic toads. Big%20smile)  A weird kind of Lewis Carroll meets Aldous Huxley type scenario...

Hmm, I might listen to it again now. Big%20smile

Hehe, the thing is, I think I took that one along as a 'hammer to crack a nut'.  TIP: I always take something really off-the-wall and weird, like 'Eskimo' or whatever, so that when I put that on, whoever's driving starts going "Aaargh no no put something else on eek make it stop NOW" - and then it's time for a little Magma or Beefheart... which seems like easy listening in comparison! Evil%20Smile LOL

I've given The Commercial Album a few goes but I am really still skeptical of it, maybe just because it wasn't what I wanted. Mark of the Mole and Third Reich 'n Roll are two I enjoy to a lesser extent.

(*blinks* why don't I have Duck Stab? I am sure I used to have)

Both of those albums are fantastic... I'm actually becoming a huge Residents fan. I've heard their first 7 albums, have a few others, and am in the process of acquiring nearly the rest of their other stuff. Big%20smile

Third Reich is fantastic... I just listened to that the other day. Mark of the Mole I have not heard yet but that's probably later today as my next album to hear.

Duck Stab/Buster and Glen is my second favorite album (after Eskimo), so you should definitely get it.

I heard that again not so long ago, and it wasn't as good as I remembered. Cry  But I was in the car; I think it goes better with being cosy indoors and closing your eyes and letting your mind wander across an imaginary snow-waste. Tongue
