Oh, okay.

Excluding the times I play music on the stereo in the basement, on my CD player, or in the car... otherwise, they've been played on my last.fm.

You also have more than me and Soft Machine is definitely in my top favorite bands.

RIP in bossa nova heaven.

Plus most of my CDs are in the other room and so I end up playing what's on my harddrive and that is usually lesser artists or bands.

My guitarist also changes the songs. There was only 2 up last time I looked. One being samples from our first major gig. The other being a sort of jazz / rock song but not really jazz but thats only way I can describe it.

I'll check it out.

Don't worry about genre classifications. Our songs are all so different. Some are punk rock, some are jazz-rock, some are psyche, some are almost metallish, some are avant-garde, some are accoustic folk... We don't really care. We just like to jam.

Same really, except we've actually come out with some good rock songs. This saturday we're gonna record a demo its going to be awesome. Big smile

And to add an ironic twist, my brother is in the band (he hates prog). The other guitarist and drummer love prog metal tho. Specifically Dream Theater and Vanden Plas.  Ah I love the irony in that.

It's insane that I have more Soft Machine plays on last.fm than you do, James. I just realized that now.

I would have never thought that.

I'm getting used to the album though. It might get better someday.

It's my personal favorite.

Took a good 6 listens to really hit me, but then it gradually took its place as one of my favorite albums ever.

Ben?

It's been one hell of a long time.

What's up?

Erm, lots of things. I'm a bass player in a band that seems to be going well, I'm on a gap year where I'm actually not doing anything because I can't find a job and thus no new prog. My friends got me into all kinds of music. And I'm not posting 60 times a day anymore.

How things going for you?

Lots of things too. I'm a sax/flute player and singer in a band. I don't listen to that much prog anymore and I don't post that much anymore either.

Life's good.

It's a rare sight to see someone with Wu Tang as his top artist on PA.

Ah cool, do you have any of your music on the internet? It would be cool to hear.

Ya about the Wu Tang stuff you can blame my guitarist. We may play rock but thats not all we listen to. He's given me so much rap and electronic music. Good stuff.

Yeah, we do have a myspace :

www.myspace.com/asemantiquepogostick

It's mostly just recorded jams with awful recording gear but there are some good parts. "La Nostalgie", "Les Irréductibles", "Panthère Saxy" and "Je suis le sosie de Damo Suzuki" are all not bad or even good. I don't know which songs are up on myspace right now cause my guitarist changes 'em daily. The Damo Suzuki one is a tribute to Can if you're interested.

I don't anyone about Wu Tang. Hehe. They're probably my favorite rap group ever. I used to listen to them a lot and still do sometimes.

Ah cool.

Here's my band's myspace

The fail is strong with this one.

Quote I feel ostracised all of a sudden.  It's like just Alex and I that listen to prog in this room at the minute. Cry

I was just listening to King Crimson earlier and now I'm listening to Soft Machine.

Quote And no, June, Animal Collective are not catchy.  They're annoying.

You may find them annoying (that's your fault, not theirs, but whatever), but they're still catchy.

I generally don't like catchy... it depends though if the catchiness is annoying or not.

Ah, then you're excused.

It's just Bern and Ben that I have to aggrieved at then. LOL

And I have yet to hear any rap I enjoy even though I always sing along to RatM at the metal club I go too. LOL

Oh wait, RatM and Beastie Boys are tolerable.

I despise RatM and Beastie Boys.

Tired and not listening to prog Shocked

What kind of music?

Listening to Cujo at the moment. He's known now as Amon Tobin. Electronic music. This stuff is quite good tho, he uses jazz samples sometimes and its relatively chill. Other music includes everything else that I can think of listening to. Seriously.

That sounds intriguing.

There's a youtube clip with just the song.

Awesome. I'll check it out.

Just not now though. Can't interrupt boxset.

I nearly always listen to music that is somehow tied to prog.

Occasionally I dabble into jazz, classic rock, or what not.

Well a lot of Henry Cow is minimalistic anti-rock. Wink

Plus I love Elton Dean.  Best jazz ever.

Prog is an umbrella, and not really a definable "genre". Opeth, Henry Cow, and The Mars Volta are all infinitely different, for example.

I need some other Dean recordings.
