I can't say that I am sorry that Cindy Crybaby and company won't be able to defend their Stanley Cup championship from last year, because I'm not. However, I can't help but think that this is an absolutely horrible development for the NHL. All of their hype has been toward Crosby and secondarily, Ovechkin, and with both of those guys gone, I think that it is going to be really, really hard for the NHL to generate much interest with the Final Four teams outside of those teams cities/states. I can say that I am hoping that the Bruins can hold on and beat Philly, and that Chicago beats the Sharks. I'm pretty sure that it has been a long, long time since two Original Six teams faced off in the Stanley Cup finals. |
Also, someone said it wasn't a great year for NHL. Well game six was the highest rated since 74'. I'd say it was a phenonemal year for the NHL. Go BlackHawks! WooHoo!!

Yeah, meh, at least Philly didn't win. Not a great year for NHL hockey.

The Blackhawks just finished off the Flyers 4-3 in overtime to take the series 4 games to 2 and to win the Stanley Cup. Not a big Blackhawks fan, but I can't stand Chris Pronger, so good to see him lose.

Epic fail by the Bruins! Props to the Flyers for never quitting, but blowing a 3 game series lead and a 3 goal lead is just...........well sad!

Congrats to the Flyers on their amazing comeback! woo! Came back from 3 games to none down in the series and from down 3-0 in the game to win the series! And tough loss for the Bruins on a too many men on the ice penalty. ouch.

lmao. Wings fan here too, so I'm in the same situation, only I'm going with the Canadiens because I can't stand Boston. (who I hope gets beat by the Flyers tomorrow) I do like the Sharks, but as you said they beat the Wings so I can't root for them.

Thanks for the info. Over 30 years. I think that it is about time for an Original Six matchup. I suppose that with the remaining teams I'll probably be rooting on the Boston Bruins, but they still have a huge game left with Philly. I do love the underdog story of 8th seeded Montreal, but they used to be the Yankees of the NHL and have won their fair share of Stanley Cups over the years. I know that it has been a long time since they have been competitive but doesn't matter they are still the hated Canadiens. And with our natural city rivalry, I have no choice but to dislike the Black Hawks. And of course, the Sharks beat the Wings, so I have to cheer on them getting their just desserts as well. Which means I have to cheer on the Bruins.

Must say, I am happy that Mario will not have to share the 4 goals in one period record with Johann Franzen, or anyone else that simply camps out in the blue paint. No offense to Franzen; he fits perfectly in the camp in front, clutch, grab, and interfere Detroit system but he's no Lemieux.
As for the Pens game: I feel for the Caps fans for the first time in my life because there is no way that this Canadians team should ever win a playoff game. Other than their superhuman goalie and top 2 defensemen they are quite pathetic. Despite having played a total of about 15 minutes of respectable hockey in this entire series they are even with a much better team yet again, gotta love soft goals and the neutral zone trap. Maybe if the NHL reined back goalie pads to where they were just 2 short decades ago scoring, and ratings, would increase and weak teams would be less likely to be bailed out by their goalie.
when Ryan Miller looks more like a NFL lineman in a postgame interview than a goalie it might time to consider some rule changes:
Now, I will say that this is his Olympic uniform and there could be a difference in what is permitted internationally. And not to pick on Ryan Miller but I remembered this interview vividly and how ridiculous he looked, like a head ontop of a pile of gym mats.

The Red Wings are up 6 to 1 after 2 periods. It looks as though they will live to fight another day.
